Take a look at the links. I ordered the digital one, but they sent the analog one. I think I still want the digital, but I am thinking the analog is more retro and might look more appropriate.

Opinions?

IMHO, the digital looks better, and would be more useful to me as it has an AUX input.

But, the LCD display will probably be harder to read than the other unit during the daytime due to std installation angle, so if you change your radio station much the analog could be the way to go.

I like the analog, it looks very period. Might even fool the Collector Plate guys that require a period radio although that slot and rectangle hole thingy might not get by.[:p]

So any clues on that wiring diagram?

What you described seems correct.

The only thing to check is that the feed is live with the ignition key in the "accessory" position rather than in "on" position.

Numbers 1-8 are for the speakers

Ground (neg), Black:....0V for the radio
12V, Yellow:..................Power supply for the radio, switched with the ign. key
Dial lamp, Blue:............Light behind the dial and buttons, connect to dash light
Power antenna, White:.To raise an (optional) antenna with motor, when the radio is switched on.

These old fashioned radio's have a mechanical selection for the radio station, so there'e no constant 12V for a memory needed.

Peter

Thanks, but I'm wondering about the speaker wires. These days you have two wires going to each speaker. This setup indicates one wire to each speaker and the other wires go to ground. You can't wire modern speakers in this way can you? I was thinking I could take one black (ground) wire to each speaker which would give me two wires to each speaker. The problem is, I don't know which black goes to which color.

Also, thanks for clarifying the 12V wire, I hadn't thought about that but it makes sense.

The difference is in the modern (high power) amplifiers. Each speaker has its own "ground", and are not connected to the ground (0V) of the radio.
On old fashioned radios, the speakers and the radio all use the same ground.

So it doesn't matter which ground wire goes to which speaker, as long as each speaker receives a ground wire?

That's right! On modern radio's the ground for the speakers have different colors. On this one they are all black. It doesn't matter witch one you use. If you measure them with an Ohm-meter, you'll see all the black ones are connected to each other.

Awesome! Thank you! Now I've got to get the cassette player working. I sure would love to be able to get this thing working and installed! I've sent out some messages to repair places but so far it sounds like most people just want to work on newer ones.

I took the radio to a repair shop today, hopefully they'll get it running good as new.

I received two C shaped brackets with the radio and can't figure out how they are used to install. They obviously go over the control shafts, but in which direction and what do they attach to? I've got a spare console that I tried to fit it too but didn't have much luck.

I believe they go over the shafts, then you sandwich the console between them and the face plate. Hopefully that makes sense!

Pictures taken as I was removing dash to refoam heater. I have since removed the purple spacers and used washers to more precisely control the position of the brackets.

Great pics, thanks for those! I was wondering what the single spacer was for too. Sounds like I'll be getting some washers too.
