I am back on the road with a TR7 as everyday car. I had my 1977 FHC 4 speed MOT tested on Friday (£35), I then renewed my insurance (£85)so that I could tax it (£180). So for £300 I am ready to enjoy a full years trouble free motoring. Quite a bit more expensive than the Sweedish charges but much less than my "other" car, a Ford Focus RS which is £2oo road tax and £400 insurance.I think the TRs are good value motoring as their superb reliability ensures very low running costs.

We have sales tax over here once when you buy. After that it's registration, insurance and anual inspection. You can get by without the inspection if it's registered Antique. Now that's in my state but it can vary. Believe me, we all pay, it's just how they go about it that varies. I think the air we breath would get taxed if they could find a way to measure it.
Several years ago met a really nice somewhat elderly fella at a show in Virginia. He had a stunning Jag XK120. Not a wealthy fella at all & he had owned the car for years. Got it as a used car when they weren't worth all that much. He said that VA was taxing the current value of the car and he didn't know if he could afford to keep it! Seemed like a darn shame to penalize such a devoted owner that had kept the car all those years.
