I've got a set of black lights somewhere (as spares), don't know where they are for sure but I could have sworn they were like the originals and not those shown. If I can find a bit of time I may hunt them down and double check as my curiosity is peaked.[:p]

These are definitely newer and better made. I don't like that they're not chrome like my originals but I'm tired of the old ones popping out. Even with your fix they are just not holding up.

I believe the originals were supplied in black for a short period. There was a set on e bay a while ago, NOS. supercass

I believe they are citroen saxo /peugeot 106 parts they seem to do a switched one and fixed one used in the boot.
