Rear springs

The TR7 was never developed for that kind of power,
that's probably why they re-engineered the rear suspension for the works rally cars.
So again, what are you going to do with the car and that king of power,
track days, racing, rallying, track days or sprints?
Do you want the car balanced to understeer, neutral or oversteer?

I know, lots of questions you have to ask yourself,
but in my case it took almost 15 years to get it more or less to my liking [:I]

As for Lotus they indeed used fairly soft springs,
but they used to have light cars with light engines.
And their test track was/is in a rather bad state [:D]

Beans,
I want it for sprinting and hillclimbing but it needs to remain useable for occasional road use. The tracks that I have been to are mostly flat and smooth, including the Lotus test track which has many layouts but which was very smooth when I tackled it.(Enjoyed it immensely too)
Any advice welcome.Calvin

Right, my decision was taken for me, the garage said they didn't want to drill holes in the chassis to put in cables to retain the uprated springs. I had some old standard springs in my garage and have had them fitted. I will see on Monday whether it works or not but I have a sneaking suspicion that it will be eminently more comfortable. I will also revisit this issue because my experience of sprinting and hillclimbing tells me the harder springs will suit it better then.
Been to MIRA today for a sprint in the Bond, I can't wait to try some V8 power round there, maybe next year.

Calvin the easiest way to be sure you will retain the rear spring is to fit a shock absorber which is shorter when fully extended, so the spring does not get slack.

I could not find a suitable off the shelf shock in Oz, so we made them.

Simply buy a set of fully repairable shocks to suit the 7. Then open them up, & fit an extra internal bump stop. This will limit the shocks extension.

If you don't want to do it yourself, any company offering the shocks for sale should be able to do it, or get it done for you.

Works like a dream.

Might be very true [;)], from a German tuning manual;
Harder front springs or shock absorbers (bump) will lessen or eliminate over steer,
Harder rear springs or shock absorbers (bump) will lessen or eliminate under steer.

I've been to see it and the ride height is as before, when they have sorted the emissions I'll be collecting it for a little run. Intrigued and excited.
