I'm imagining AWD through 4 x 200kW electric motors,

<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">

200kW per wheel is maybe to much since EM's can produce several times nominal moment in short bursts. I would limit it to the posible traction of the wheel. Even whith lower power EM still murders IC engine, since it has torque from 0 rmp , where the IC engine has no torque. But 4 smaller inboard EM's would be great.

multiple modular battery packs in low centre under bonnnet,

floor pan, doors, B pillars, etc.

For batteries, LiFePO4 are a good contender there is a firm called A123 that makes automotive batteries ( plate , not cilindrical) that would make good battery packs. The good thing about them is that they can discharge at about 30C. The worst thing is that manufacturers often lie about the number of cycles the battery can be recharged.
For a decent autonomy it would require atleast 20k euros of batterys (that is retail price in mass production it would go down but its still largest portion of the vehicle cost)

Do we have an millionaire lurking around the forum that would be intrested in financing the prototype. I got most of the stuff figured out just missing are those small pieces of paper with pictures of old dead people on them . hehehe [:D]

I like the idea of electric hybrid. 4 EM one each wheel with the ability to steer at each wheel. Imagin moving almost sidways into a parking space! or realy tight turning circle in confined area's. the hybrid part would come in with a couple of small turbines under the hood as generation not propultion a la Jaguar CX75

Actually one of the Japanese cars have solar panels on the roof that powers a fan if I remember right to keep the interior cooler (when parked). I think it's the Leaf electric car but might be another.

I've always been concerned about the life of batteries in hybrid cars but I think they warranty them for 7 years (must be new technology) and are about $4 - $5 thousand cost.

There is a Canadian sports car eVaro that uses batteries/electric motors with small gas engine generator a la Chevy Volt. There was a TV show where it was entered in gas milage challenge in US and had to use it's gas generator 100% of time (it's designed for intermittent use) and it overheated due to one motor being 17 thou out of spec. They only had a couple of weeks to put it together to meet race deadline.
