On a RH drive car the hole is near the top of the transmission tunnel near the bulkhead, you will see it near the top of your left foot if you have it on the footrest. The cable comes down from the speedo through the bulkhead grommet and over the gearbox into the drive gear.
The speedo cable sweeps with no kinks through the hole and over the gearbox.
The LH drive cars use the same hole on the opposite side of the tunnel because the controls are on the left.
If you can't figure it out then I can take a photo of the car I have in bits.
