U.K. Historic vehicle tax.

Postby supercass » 18 Jan 2017 11:15

I have an idea that this may have been mentioned before but I can't find it.
Is it correct that for example, a vehicle manufactured in 1979 but registered in 1981 will be issued with a new age related 1979 plate should the owner prove a build date and wish to use this to claim historic vehicle exemption and that the oiwner will lose the original regiustration number the vehicle has had for decades. Is it also correct that a vehicle registered up to and including 7th January will be deemed to have been built the previous year.

No, a new plate will not be issued but the build date will decide on whether it gets historic class, not the registration date

how do you know your car build date?
If it's not broke don't fix it.

Various sources, not all of which the DVLA will accept. One acceptable to them is a Heritage Certificate.
