Its That Time Of The Year Again

Postby john 215 » 25 Jan 2015 09:27

Hi,

Rimmer Bros TR7/8 winter sale leaflet dropped through the door yesterday morning, normally appears online shortly after, may save you a few ££££'s but still worth shopping around before parting with your hard earned.

Cheers John

I received my leaflet yesterday.

I may well pick up a clutch slave cylinder since I'm still running the original untampered with part from 1980. Never been overhauled or rebuilt, even though I'm on my 3rd master cylinder and rebuilt 2 more in between.

I'd thought about replacing the hydraulic pipe for a braided goodridge item at the same time but at £50 I don't think its in the sale.

As per my learned friend John, it can pay to look at the other specialist's prices. However, Rimmer's did a good deal on the uprated TR8 m/cylinder and servo combination a couple of years ago even if the plastic reservoir was delivered damaged and had to be replaced.

Adam,
what was the good deal? I fancy changing mine too. That said, I am assuming that it is the correct master cylinder for four pot calipers, if anyone can shed some light on that I would be very appreciative.
Cheers, Calvin.

Hi Calvin,

I think I bought it below £200 during that promotional period but times and prices appear to have moved on.

http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-RB7656 but I'm not sure if the spec of this is the same as the one I bought. There's a note on this webpage stating that the brake pedal might be higher after fitment, mine wasn't, and that filing the reservoir after fitment is difficult so fill beforehand, but I can't see why from the picture and mine isn't.

I uprated my brakes well before I converted to V8 spec. The standard 7 master cylinder and servo combo didn't suit them as the pedal required so much extra travel to make the excellent brakes work, even with braided hoses. The bigger pistons in the bigger brakes need more fluid to move them. The uprated cylinder and servo delivers this and transformed the pedal travel and feel so it hardly moves at all, a bit like the brake pedal on a Citroen CX.

If this is the same spec as mine then I'd expect it to work for you as well.

Other suppliers such as S&S, Robsport and James Paddock etc are available.

Hope this helps,

Adam

Cheers Adam, that is helpful, I don;t have a huge ammount of travel but I do need to put a lot of pressure into it, reminds me of the modded non-servoed brakes on my hillclimbing Bond Equipe, only without the initial bite.
I want more bite and a more modern feel to my TR7 brakes. Any other suggestions are welcome although I have braided throughout already.
Thanks again
Calvin

Hi,

Fitted a braided hose to my V8 20 plus years ago, had too do it after struggling all day to fit a set of four manifolds from Rimmers, that allegedly fitted a TR& / 8 BUT were completely the wrong shape for our cars [:(!] , I ended a perfect day off fitting, removing, bending, refitting both sides by melting the standard plastic hose whilst road testing it DOH [:I] [:o)]...... A lesson well learnt !!

I notice for those without flyers it up on there site now -

http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/

BUT do cross reference prices elsewhere as not always the cheapest deal.

Cheers John

For clutch pipes that fit it can be worth approaching your local hydraulic people

I had mine made about twenty years ago - it was a lot cheaper than Rimmer's and it fitted first go.

Cheers

Thanks Andy

I was looking at their website a day too early for the promotional price. the original clutch pipe and slave cylinder were carried over to the V8 conversion and fitted fine. I don't know why the pipe is listed separately for both TR7 and TR8.
