As said got to be the best bargain 2 seater out there, was speaking to a gent who has one on Wed. evening at a local car show and his has done 90k now and used everyday for work. Was saying they have the same misunderstood reputation as TR7's. He had to do head gasket but they really are not a big deal to do, and the later spec gasket with steel dowels seam to be more reliable.

Just keep an eye on the water level gents, you do not get a second chance with a K series, run it low on water and you will damage it [xx(]

They are obscenely cheap it the UK, here in Oz they bring a bit more, but in comparison with the alternatives they offer a bigger and better bang for the bucks ratio.

I got mine very cheap as the seller was in a jam, the poor bugger had to move back to the UK to look after a sick family member, he'd sold the house, other cars etc. He had someone lined up to buy the MGF and they pulled out at the last moment and he had only 2 days before he had to fly out. So I made him an offer of A$3750 and he took it as I was the only potential buyer he had.
My car is worth at least twice as much, especially as it had a new clutch and a freshly rebuilt engine.
I got it, figuring that I could play with it for a little while then sell it on at a profit, but I've decided it's a keeper, I wouldn't get anything near as good to replace it with for the money I'd get for it.

Yeah the steel dowls and revised head gasket do make a difference, as does the stud gridle/oil rail of the later engines.

Anyone running one of these cars without a low water alarm fitted, has rock in their head, as they'll end up cooking it sooner or later due to low coolant level.

The good ones are not cheap but they are cheaper than blowing the head gasket.
Here is a link to the one I fitted to mine: http://www.ukmgparts.com/product.aspx?CID=a6438a2a-06ce-45d6-a18f-943e9e1c4240&SID=ebec95df-7260-440a-8983-8643a1d15510&PID=91827d9b-18de-491e-b074-a1f29941307a

Are the later model TFs made in China any good, they keep coming up for sale at auction.

I spent some time reading through the forums and other articles last night Chris. The bottom line is they are no better built than the 2005 model. Modified front end, all the goodies as standard, leather, aircon, hardtop etc. The engine supposed to be better from new with all the moded bits but if you've changed the head gasket on an older car it will be the same and just as reliable.
Limited numbers and of course being a newer car makes the prices hold up a little better, but even the 2009 models are down to £5000 at some dealers. Most only have a nominal mileage as well.

Like most cars though the limited edition cars do command a premium (a very little premium) such as the MGF trophy, Abingdon and SE models. The TF too have seems to be the 160 or the anniversary models.

The one problem I find with them though is I like them and they are very capable little cars but I just can't fall in love with them. I suppose I'm capable of only being in love with the TR7.

I went out for a spin in the TR7 last night and ended up in a local pub for a quick pint as you do. I sat on one of the outside tables and looked at the shabby Java Green TR7 parked in the car park opposite and thought to myself, no matter how much I've enjoyed the MG over the last couple of weeks, especially in this fine weather we've been having, it will never capture my heart in the same way in which the TR7 has done. I too am capable of only the one love, no other classic could ever replace the TR7 in my affections. Not even your Porsche John.[:D]

Took a 2002 ZT off a chap last week as a part-ex, 51k, V6 in metallic green, needed a suspension arm for its MOT. It's taxed until the new year so it has become my colleagues car for the next 3-4 months. Total cost to us, with the MOT work, less than £300. It drives like a dream. Correct Tony these prices are lunacy.

I bought a brand new V6 MGZT in 2002 and I loved that car. I have had a number of other new cars before and since and not one comes close to the MG for enjoyment.
There was something about it, maybe character or soul or whatever you want to call it but it had that certain something that is usually missing from modern cars. It wasn`t just "white goods" like many new cars are today.

I like the 911 Roy, but that is more like an affair. Fancied it for ages, spent a lot of money and time on it, but as soon as the lust has gone out of the relationship it will be dropped for something else[:D]

Hi,

When BMW re-developed the Cowley site, well more accurately shut 50% down and flattened the other half and rebuilt it for at the time Rover 75 production ( and eventually Mini ) we lost our training centre. After a year or so they opened a new one up at Gaydon, as a MG and Master Tech. I had to attend yearly seminars, it was at one of these were shown a MGF with a K series V6 shoe horned in the rear of it [:0]( and at the time the years from being released Mini with Rover badges on it [:0] but that's another story !! ) Sounded lovely and would of made a great car if someone had the ' balls ' to have built it, mmmmmm....... that would keep me busy over the winter !!

Another thing we had to do in being a MG tech was take the owners on a coach trip around Longbridge, always a great day out and was made very welcome when we went to see MGF's being nailed together.

Cheers John
