headlamp fitting

After removal and refitting of the headlamps which involved much winding up and down using the knob on the motor to align them,when I connect the battery and turn them on will they move of their own accord into the correct position?.I have mot dismantled or adjusted the motors or mechanism but removed it as a whole then removed the pods to paint them.Thanks Steve...

All day to fit the headlamps,adjusting one set of bolts on the mounting upset the adjustment of the pods and a round of first one then the other took a while.Drilling the snapped screws and retapping the holes in the pods dragged it out and then repairing the rubber fronts about finished me off.Then connect the battery and YES!!! one of the lights worked,the other lit but would not move up or down.Earths cleaned.relays checked/changed over,connectors resoldered behind lamps and still no joy.the wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual seemed to only have a vague resemblance to the actual wiring but I worked out the feed to the motor and connected it directly to the battery:dead...Removal of the carefully adjusted lamp revealed two small corroded spade connectors joining the motor to the short loom that goes into the car,spot of soldering,refitting and YES YES YES two correctly working lamps.Give me welding any day.Steve...

On these cars most electrical faults are caused by corrosion due to old age ...

After all the problems i`ve had with mine,the occasional headlamp not going up or down makes me smile and i`ve learnt to live with it.

The problem with poor connections is when using a voltmeter they often show battery voltage but fail under load.This could be a disconnection which is irritating or a high resistance which could be even more inconvenient as it heats up and increases current which in the worst case could cause a fire.Steve..
