Wheel Nuts and 1/4 Light

Postby TRJames » 29 Mar 2014 17:52

Hi, couple of questions, easy one first.

I have bought some TR7 alloys for my 1981 DHC which is currently on standard steels. Do I need different wheel nuts or will the ones I have do?

The fastener which secures the passenger side quarter light frame at the lowest point of the glass channel has snapped off (not me, previous owner!). Does anyone know if this is a stud or a bolt and if the door frame itself is tapped or if there is a captive nut within the frame? The broken fastener does not want to come out so it looks like I will have to drill it out but would like to know what it is first.

Many thanks James

Are they the standard factory alloys? If so they are hub centric meaning they are centered by the hub and you will need the appropriate factory flat type wheel nuts. If they are after market they may be lug centric meaning they are centred by the lug nuts and will require lug nut that is tapered so the taper will center the wheel on the lug nuts.

Not sure about the 1/4 lites as it's been 7 years since I've had mine off. Will have to leave to someone with more recent experience (or a longer memory).

Hi, thank you and yes they are the factory alloys. Will start looking for the appropriate wheel nuts!
