What color was this?

Postby Nightrunner » 11 Jul 2013 04:26

Back in the 1980's when there were still a few TR7's driving around, I recall seeing a couple of DHC's in this sort of greenish silver color. And it may have been a greenish tan. Its been a long time and it was a hard color to describe even back then. I have never seen that color on a car since then. I thought it was called platinum but now I think maybe platinum is more of a straight silver. Or is it? Does anyone know this color? I'm in the U.S. by the way. Don't know if we got any unique colors. [I do have a TR7 which is blue and 90% done with a Buick V-6 conversion.] But I'm looking at an '02 Accord and think it would look great and really different in that obscure TR7 color. Thanks!

Probably Platinum grey (MCA), and it was fairly popular on the DHC's sold over here.
Actually my very first car (1980 DHC) was Platinum grey.
But a tricky colour to catch on film properly ...

Got so fed up with people calling the car green that I painted it very green in the end [}:)]

I think I know the colour of which you speak. I've mentioned it here before. It was when I first brought my Spider home. Never saw the car again. Wish I had taken a picture of it. It was much greener than Beans pictures show. As he said it may have been a colour that digital cameras have a hard time reproducing.

I have noticed that my platinum TR8 tends to reflect what colours are around it so if you are on a lawn with trees it looks much more green than it really is.

The colour is a metalic silver with a touch of bronze. I have parked next to what I believe are Argent Silver TR7/8's and they are much more of a white/silver colour.

Both pictures were taken way before the first digital cameras appeared on the market, hence the "catch on film" remark [;)]

That's the same color the owner of a salvage yard bought here in town. He bought it off a neighbor (original owner), who had it in his garage. The car had been there for over 10 years and one day the salvage yard owner spotted it and asked if he could by it.
He just last week changed the color to dark blue and dyed the green plaid seats and door panels black.
To bad, it was very original looking with zero rust.

Okay, so it was platinum after all. Thanks! If I ever get around to painting the Accord (or some other car) that color, I will post pics. [And if I ever finish my V6 TR7, I'll post that too.]
