Other electrical issues

Postby SimonO » 04 Sep 2011 16:28

My 7 has been great recently but the indicators started messing me about. A new flasher unit has been fitted (one of the new ones with an earth).

I now have the following symptoms: Left indicator is fine, right makes the unit make a buzzing sound but no lights (randomly does work occasionally). No hazard lights using dash switch. Headlight flash on stalk doesn't work (pods don't raise if lights off, don't flash if lights on).

Anything in common with the above???

Hi,

Apart from bad earth connections, there are plenty of connector blocks that might be furred up with green powder or become slightly adrift causing problems. There's plenty of them;

Under the fake speaker panel on the top of the dash.

Behind the switch panel (headlight, hazard fog etc)

Under the binnacle / behind the steering wheel.

Around the left of the passenger footwell close to the fusebox / relays.

One or more of these might be causing your problems. Hope it helps.

Adam

Rather than try and pin point the problem connection, clean and thin film di-electric grease on them all. That way you not only fix your problem you head off all the other ones waiting for you down the line.

Ahh, I happen to know that Simon has just had all the connections replaced on his loom and that this is what is frustrating him as they have been working. He borrowed my flasher unit and discovered that this was not the issue.
I suppose he will just have to revisit them all again.
That said, it is a drophead so hand signals are not out of the question[:)] and it didn't stop him leading a 27 car triumph convoy on Saturday, I am pleased to report that no one ended up in a ditch as a result of the leccy gremlins.

What's that coming over the hill? Is it a monster?
