hi. is it my car or has everyone who has fitted the above roll bar had probelms with it?
i purchased the car complete with the roll bar and soon decided that the roll bar was causing the last of the press studs on the hood not to stay fastened.and interfering with the action of the hood when dropping it.
i have removed the roll bar and cut 1/2 inch off the longer tubes which then cured everything. i don't have any destructions for the bar but is this the norm.... and how is it ment to be fixed to the car????

My car came with an Aley roll bar but I have never had a problem with the hood operating over it. From memory it is bolted down to the rear 'parcel' deck behind the seat belts and with plates to the sides behind the doors. I think the base of the tubes just sit on the floor (can't remember clearly now).

The hood height can be adjusted at the bolts just behind the doors.

Hi,

Needed to trim mine in the same place. I adjusted the roof up slighly to help it clear the roof when folding it up and down.

hi.
hood on low setting ... wont clear the frame. press stud still wouldn't do up. hood on high setting .... just clear the frame after scratching it... no chance of doing up press studs.

the plates on long tubes... how do they attach to body mine was riveted on.....

and the long tubes were pressing down into the carpet on the floor with a nest of cables under the carpet below!!!

Hi,

If you pull back the carpet on the side behind the door. You will see a captive nut welded into the body, this you use as the center mounting hole,

I think the P.O. liked his glue!!


Then drill the other 2 bolt holes each side, you can either weld a nut in or use a 'rivnut'. Once this is done drill the holes through the shelf and bolt down. Its possible to slot the side holes to allow adjustment down, you will need to trim down the base of the roll bar too.

many thanks... mmmmmmm not really that strong a fixing as i thought. more a bling bar...

Does not look too strong but I suppose the load is taken through the rear deck and floor if the worst happens. I think it does stiffen the shell (despite mine only having a single bolt in each of the side plates, which is one more than when I bought it). I find it does not suffer from scuttle shake etc.

hi. when i look at it.. great if the car gentle rolls over!! the load transfers to the parcel shelf and the side plates and on to the floor as the parcel shelf collapse's / compresses as the side plate's take up the play between the 12mm holes and the 10mm bolt.....
but get some forward movement in the car as it rolls and the bar digs in the road and shears the 10mm bolt, ripes out the self tapers in the side plates as the parcels bends back and the longer bars on the side plates swing forward in to the rear of the arms/shoulder of the driver.etc...
god.......i just don't know what keeps me so happy.....too many car crash films or smashing too many car bodies.... in a professional capacity lol.... but i still dont think i'll take my bar out
and any cross bracing must help...

hi. yeah a project of mine to make one even before i returned to triumph tr (Tinkering Required) ownership just to see the effects.
