bit more modification

Postby nervousnewowner » 27 Jul 2011 19:07

ok as have mentioned on a few occasions been looking for somewhere to move the lights out of the doors as keep bumping them when in and out of car without noticing and flattening the battery so found this little spot...... loses me the illumination over the heater but had never worked anyway so no great loss, not for the purists but will give it a go and if it doesnt work out its only this little bit of dash to replace.....[:D]

I get the occasional light bump too but never ran the battery down (yet). You should try the new replacements that don't move (from another BL model I believe). That way you don't have to replace the cards. Whether your modification will work, only time will tell. I would have located them to the rear of the kneepads so you get illumination in footwell where you usually need it when you drop something at night. Or a strip of LED lights under the dashboard. At least you'll be able to see your heater controls.[:D]

Not sure about the wood slats [:D]

I am not always one for the purist approach, but getting the right look as though it was OEM design is not easy, but Dave these do look good well done.

Where did you get the lamps, I could do with getting the foot wells in my TR illuminated, I have done this for the Spitfire with lamps from an autojumble many years ago.

pete i too thought the wood slats a step too far...[:p]

and the lights are the original door lights, cut the holes with a dremmel type tool in the panel then just had to chamfer the one edge off and then flashed the trim over with black satin, want a black dash and currently mines grey...... got to have the screen reset soon and when i take the old one out will do any screen surround repairs needed and spray the main part of the dash, save taking it out the car...........

i too hope they work, and the reason for the flat batteries is the car gets sporadic work done at the moment with horrible work shifts so if i nudge the light on when getting out and dont notice it could be over a week before i get back in the car........sad i know but it happens, cant wait to start putting the interior back in it now and post mot actually using the thing this year..........[:D]
