That's what we call in the UK an "X" reg which was Aug 1st 1981 to 31st July 1982. The "X" being the suffix on the reg plate. So your TR8 would be a "V" or "W" registration, depending when in 1980 it was first registered. Just to confuse you, your Maxima would probably be an "R" reg but a prefix such as R 456 DEF. The system of suffix and prefix registrations changed in late 2000 and we now have 01/51 plates for the early (Sep 1st 2000 to 28/9th Feb 2001) and late (1st March to 31st Aug) parts of the registration year respectively. In 2001/2, it became 02/52 and so on. We are now on 11 registration and in September it will be 61. Confused? We are! The registration stays with the vehicle throughout it's life from first registration to end of life except when a "cherished" plate is transferred onto it. For example, i would like to get L800 DMH for my Rover 800 as it contains the year identifier (it's illegal to make a car appear newer so i can't have R800 DMH), the model series and my initials. I could then transfer the cherished plate to whatever car i wanted as long as it was L reg (1993/4) or newer.

Hope this gives you a vague idea about our car registration system!!

Yikes! I don't think anywhere on this side of the pond has anything like that. I had to get new plates for the Maxima a couple years ago because the State Patrol says that after 7 years the reflective coating has worn off. New plate costs more. Usually we just get stickers with the new expiration year to stick on the plate. You can keep the same number if you renew far enough in advance and send in more extra money. I just let them change the number. I still have trouble remembering that it is 511XVN now and not 532MPQ like it used to be. Before that I lived across the river in Oregon and had different plates. I don't recall that Oregon did anything silly like making you get new plates every seven years or not.

Gee Don, those are very cool, but my car needs so many other things right now they will have to wait. I was pretty pleased with the gray spray paint I found for them. It cost me a bit less than £95.00 too. Maybe some day though,,, [:D]

Just to be a bit diffrerent I bought a pair of MT covers for mine.
Cleaned them up and sprayed them satin black, all for £20.00 off ebay
They now look the same as these..

hi there,
yeah she is 1981 according to all documentation,

she is pretty rust free and the only only little items that need doing that i have come across so far is

sunroof: does not leak but material coming away
fuel guage: does not work
speedo: stopped working late last night believe it to be cable as this has popped out of place behind the dash, might be where i was looking at fuel gauge.

otherwise if anyone wants to come have a look and see her you are more than welcome all advice is accepted with open arms.

i shall try and get some more photos around the arches and roof so you can see the real extent of the job at hand,

i would like to tkae her now to a few meets instead of the mk3 spitfire so any news on them as well is welcome.
