Rolling tax exemption will end in the Nethelands too,
they set the limit at january 1988 (if I remember correctly).

Over here in Sweden it's a rolling 30 year limit - no cut off year (OK, so far...)
and not much discussion/arguing about it either. But with all the surviving,
and still everyday transport, Volvo 240's I guess it's bound to happen. [V]

We don't get taxed on cars here, just a licence fee $54 off hand I think and of course insurance bought through the Provincial government (I.C.B.C.) at the same time. Cars that are over 25 years are eligible for less expensive Collectors Plate/insurance and it can be used on up to three cars at no additional cost. If the manufacturer no longer exists (such as Triumph) the time is reduced to 15 years. There are restrictions on collector car approval (can't be just any car), doesn't have to be concourse or restored, just no rust, seats and carpet in good shape, original equipment or upgrades of the era allowed. Paint colour must be close to that available in the year. Some safety upgrades allowed like brakes etc. This eliminates the clunkers getting the special rates.

There are other Plates available, Vintage Car plates (pre '50 something) and Hot Rod plates (older cars with engine and suspension upgrades). This covers all three segments of the car (and motorcycle) hobby by these three classes as the hobby business is recognized as an important segment of the economy and very pervasive in our society.

The only rumblings is the introduction of Sales taxes on private sales in deference to the New/Used Car business lobby buying off the politicians.

I always tax mine all year round, until 2 years ago I used it as my every day car throughout the winter (was a bit of a handfull in the snow!)I now have a 1961 Land Rover I use when the weathers bad, but I used the TR for work Monday this week.
