Engine lifting eye picture

Postby nick » 22 Nov 2010 00:05

Could someone post a picture of the lifting eyes installed on 8v. I've checked the manuals to no avail and I cannot figure out where they attach.

One mounts in front of the front carb, above the timing cover with two long bolts protruding through a lug cast into the block and nuts holding the bracket on. Look under the small coolant line to the overflow tank in the below pic.

Can't remember offhand where the other one mounts.

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="blue">Hi Nick.

I hope the following helps.

Image

The upper bracket is the black bracket on the rear mounting of the inlet manifold and in the picture the lower bracket can be seen below the lowest of the hoses going into the theromstat housing but above and right of the right hand carb dashpot. Now, I'm not saying they are the correct ones in the right position, but they worked for me and fit, so odds are they are correct. Either way, they are staying put now [:D].

Good luck,

I've shown this picture before, you can see rear black lifting hook above the fuel rail. It's shaped differently than the carb version shown which looks like my Spitfire hook. I don't know if that's because of different intake manifold but as they are both in approximately same spot they will work. Unfortunately I don't have a rear on Tellow TCT so I can't compare there.

Thanks for all the help. Now does anyone know if these are available some where? I've checked Rimmer and they have some but not for the TR7 8v.

Here's the rear engine hook on my Yellow TCT. It's mounted on the exhaust manifold (by air rail in picture) as there is emission stuff (not likely seen in UK) in the way to mount on intake manifold. The car has only 47,000 Km so not enough mileage for much screwing up by PO so likely that way from factory.

Looks like there are a couple of locations for the rear one. On the top of the head or at the bottom rear head bolt. On US cars there is an air pump bracket that shares a bolt with the alternator bracket seen just above the fan belt in the picture. On my car that pump bracket has been cut since the pump was removed. I removed three of the four bolts on the remaining pump bracket before I realized that I would have to remove the alternator bolt as well. But the front eye must go where that pump bracket mounts.
