The car should be allow to go from the docks for inspection, if there are things that need sorting on the car you can do it yourself or get someone else to do the work, but the car will have to be trailered to and from place of work and inspection, but they will release the car to you after it is imported and then it is up to you to get it sorted for the road. I am assuming that still is the procedure.
You must have all the paper work together before the car leaves the UK, the shipping company will be able to sort all this out for you. I made the mistake once to leave the UK before the car was shipped and things went wrong this side and consequently the car sat in the Uk for an extra 5 months because there was no one at my old address to be told that the car wasn't able to go because of certain regulations in the UK[:(!] They sometimes don't think to use your new delivery address[:0]

Regards
Peter

The car is unable to handle my driving capabilities

This website should have all the info you need.

http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/ ... _vehicles/

It contains links to all the regulation and Application Forms you need. Better to deal in facts.

Thanks for the link and all the information. From what I have seen, I should be able to import my girl and take her to where I am staying. Then I will have to arrange taking her for a road safety test when I want and then if she fails take her away and sort out any issues myself. That is as long as I move her on a trailer.

It also looks like because my 7 is over a certain age, she will not have to meet the strict regulations that other (newer) cars will. That is good news for me.
