My eldest Son told me the DHC was not running very well...He said it would hardly idle. We thought it would be a good time to change the spark plug wires. New wires were installed and still the engine skipped a little and just would not idle very sooth. It would start ok just a round or two and fired right up, but the idle was not smooth and it would skip...sometimes.
The 30 year younger set of ears heard a snapping, popping sound(arcing) and soon located the arcing at the coil where the coil wire plugs in. The arcs were a good 1" to 1.5" long...$#!$..a cracked coil..a cracked DELCO[:(!] coil I mummered. I verified the plug wire was well seated and it was ok, it had to be that the coil was cracked...didn't it. But why is it arcing over an inch and not at the plugs the plug gap is only .025"?
I pulled the distributor cap and Hummm...
What is wrong with this picture I ask you??[B)]
Something was TWISTED and something is MISSING...
So just finished ordering the new button and cap, will be here in 3 to 7 days...
Yea, somebody probably didn't get the cap on correctly, stuff happens...Heck...I'm ecstatic..from an expensive coil replacement to a $4.00 rotor button, just might be my lucky day...Not as lucky as Wedgehead who got the TR7 and 8 for $200.00 but I feel lucky !!
I can not believe the car even ran much less as good as it did !![:0]
