Maybe time to revisit. who knows.

Postby letstorque » 23 Jun 2010 06:49

Despite being an old Fart and mentioning on a well known auction site that I probably wouldn't have another TR, I have given it a long hard thought. Well, at least 3 seconds. You see, if my old car came up for sale at the right price then I don't think I could possibly refuse. I really do miss it. Yes, the MX5 has been great over the last 5 years and it starts on the button in every type of weather and everything still works even though it coming up to twenty years old but im bored by not tinkering.
It had an oil leak. woopee doo. Rocker cover gasket had hardened. Unscrew, remove, replace, fixed. Yawn.
So, if you are still out there OLF 30W and you want to visit Daddy, come and find me.

Of course it's time to revisit letstorque, there never was a time
when it wasn't a time to revisit.

You know you are not complete with out a wedge, & what use is a car,
no matter how reliable, when it plays the wrong sound track? I've
tested a couple of MX5s in the last couple of days, & I have to
ask, do they have a sound track? I didn't hear one, even with the
top down.

OK, it can go get the shopping, but you'd have to graft 2 of them
together to get a "REAL"car. A 7V8 is the only car for some people.

Parts are cheap for the TR7 when they have to be fixed. New cars (like the Miata etc.) may need less repairs but are expensive.

Examples of various cars I've heard about lately.

ABS Modulator: $1,700 (TR7 doesn't have one).
Head Gasket: $1,000
CV boot: $350
Valve cover gasket: $600
Transmission repair: $10,000
ICU (controls assesories like radio, intermittent wipers, etc): No longer avsilable at any price.
Upper rad hose: $300

I think I'll keep my old cars (91 and older) for as long as possible thanks. Not to mention none of those new cars are as much fun to drive nor have the character....OK, I'll mention it.
