Lucas Opus distributor

Postby nick » 05 Jun 2010 01:30

I have the Lucas Opus distributor with an Allison electronic ignition in my US Federal (not California) '79 TR7. There is no retard unit fitted (except for the owner.) Most of the ant-polution equipment is removed, EGR and Air Pump. The cat is still there as well as the charcoal canister. I checked the timing at warm idle at 800rpm and it is 4 degrees BTDC. I have read some of the previous posts on this and recall that Mildred likes setting hers at 4 degrees BTDC with the retard hose connected. I have no hose to connect or disconnect. Should I leave it alone at that setting? Am I just looking for a project?

Yes, you are looking for a project. If the car runs okay, leave it alone. Instead, go to the auto parts store over the hill and buy a clay bar kit and a bottle of liquid caranuba wax. Then spend the rest of the weekend making your paint look like it is about nine inches deep.

This will keep you out of trouble.
