Ride height

Postby jclay (RIP 2018) » 20 Jan 2008 19:16

Hello,

I can not get my low profile shop jack under the front of my car. I have noticed that most TR7s ride with the bottom of the car parallel to the ground. I measured mine along the trim rail that runs below the door. It is almost 2" higher at the back of the trim rail than at the front.

Does anyone else's car sit this way?

Hi JClay

Mine also runs slightly higher at the rear although maybe not as high as yours appears to be. (Gorgeous car by the way).

My DHC used to sit that way when I bought her.
This was due to the rear springs being renewed while the fronts were still original and rather ... euhm ... compressed with age [:I]

Car handled like a pig, which actually was good fun [:D]

My 7 was like that too.
I had a pair of springs reset 15/16" lower, which was as low as I
felt would not fall out on a bit of a jump. The thing now looks OK,
but still just a little high.

Beans, I know what you mean about the handling.
I have a pair of 11 year old 205 13 Brigdgestones on the back. They
are so hard that they have shown no wear in over 45,000 Km. With
them on there there is no doubt which end will loose traction first.

I always prefered a big oversteer car, except on the track. I'll
realy miss these tyres, when the side walls start to pack up, &
I have to replace them.

Ted is bringing out a new spring/stabilizer Kit later this year. I will upgrade to better springs then.

Thanks, ngtf. It looks nicer now that I redid the pinstripes. No photos of it yet. Maybe this summer.

I have replaced my saging springs with regular springs. I no longer bottom out on every speed bump. I can't tell if back end is higher at the moment as I have it on jack stands but my hydraulic jack doesn't fit under the crossmember. I first have to jack up on sides with sissor jack to put jackstands under body/frame. Then I have enough room to jack up from front. I use a piece of 2x3 to help distribute the load as well as protect crossmember from steel on steel.

Some jacks have a lower lift point but mine is standard Canadian Tire issue.

How does it sit with two persons on board - after all, most of that weight goes straight on the back axle.
