Portland ABFM Photos.

It was a mostly nice day with a few quickly passing rain showers. I made the mistake of putting my top back down for the 10 mile drive home and got caught in a downpour. Sunday, swap meet day was cool and dreary. Twenty degrees F warmer today and it's back to work.

Saturday wasn't bad but left my top up as others put them up and down as the showers dictated. Sunday was cold cloudy and damp and looked like no change, not a good day for racing so after a quick look at the boot sales I headed for the border. Got better after Olympia. Took the I-5 to the truck stop crossing as I hadn't been that way for a while. Got my duty free booze. Next year All Triumph Drive In is in Campbell River, BC on Vancouver Island, just up the road so will have to go to that as I haven't been for a while instead of Portland ABFM.

Nice pics Merv. Congrats on another first. Your car is looking great as always. I enjoyed the day and the 380 mile round trip from Bend to Portland. It was a good ride over the Cascades with a little rain and a little sun. My 2.0L with the UK spec pistons, mild cam, free flow exhaust and header made about 29 MPG. But the wind noise (roof up) combined with the engine and exhaust noise was a bit fatiguing after after 3 hours at a continuous 3000 RPM. The car is more comfortable with the the roof down. Next year I'll bring my Sprint conversion. I hope.

It wasn't first but second (that was first last year, just put that in the picture to compare last year and this year's prize, a tad confusing). By contrast I find travelling with top up more relaxing (as does Bill), more noise from trans/diff but less from wind and road noise, even with the BMW Z3 wind blocker.

I left before the results. Which cars came 1st and 3rd?

Alan's yellow DHC got first, Bill's Sprint con. got third. Alan's car was very nice but he didn't have his hood up and that usually loses a few votes. The only thing I didn't like was the Japanese style steering wheel, doesn't fit the time line, more at home on a Honda.

It's hard to win anything with my russet brown car. Most people do not like the color. It's far from my favorite but I wasn't about to change it. I bought this one without giving the color much thought.
