This Sunday my Triumph club, the Triumph Sports Owners Assoc. of
Queensland is taking it's monthly club run to one of the top V8
racing teams, Stone brothers racing, south of Brisbane.

Although at the top for some time, in recent years, they have been
just below the top 5 cars for a little while now.

Quite a few teams get their engines built by Stone Brothers, so it
will be interesting to have a look at their engine shop.

Don't take the piss out of their Kiwi accents. [:D] I hope you are taking your V8.

Well, they have quite a setup.

I have seen very successful engineering shops, with much less
machining capacity.

Peter, I asked Ross what he knew of Jim Palmer, & he said
simply, "he was a star", so you should be able to find some info on
him, mid to later 60s.

Phil, I have a book called The Drivers that was published in 2007 which gives the biographies of all of NZs notable race car drivers but Jim is not in it. There is very little on google either so I can't offer anymore info apart from the odd race result & photo. I can ask around though.

Did you take the 8?

Yep, took the 8.

We had about 45 of us & about 15 Goald Coast MG club, who we invited.

There were 6 7s, 3 7V8s, & 2 8s, the most I've seen in one place.
There were about 5 other TRs, [4s to 6s] plus a Spitfire, & a few
various saloons, including 1 very nice Sprint.

Only 2 MGs, & a Lotus 7, with most in moderns.

A couple wanted a look at the 4.6L, & a lot more after I was asked
to fire it up. Standing room only then. Some bloke asked me where
I'd learned to play such beautiful music. I pionted out it had cost
quite a few dollars for the instrument, but playing it was easy.
