Next quarterly update!

Here's the 2010 campaign.

April 11th Ilkley Jubilee Run in BRP - a tour and autotest type of event which I will need a driver for. The driver will hopefully be Sarah so that we can keep the team together

June 13th Stobs Classic - a series of tests against the clock at Stobs army base near Hawick. If the car has survived Sarah's driving on the Ilkley (she'll give me a good kicking for that) then she may be driving again if she can make it, or then again I may well have to drive again cos I love it so much.

July 4th - Lake District Classic based at Penrith with a series of tests in the surrounding area.

September 4th Yorkshire Revival rally - same format as the lake District Classic but based near York.

Looking to the future beyond that though,

I am seriously considering entering one of the Classic Marathons now that the Manx is off the agenda for a few years.

http://www.classicrally.org.uk/classicm ... index.html

It's not as "full on" as the Manx or stage rallying as such but it is still very much a challenge.

Over 6 or 7 days, only 6 tyres allowed and regs like this

"The competing crew, except for any breakdown assistance the Organisers may provide, must
undertake all servicing. Other than that provided by Rally Officials, ORGANISED SERVICE ASSISTANCE IS EXPRESSLY FORBIDDEN. The facilities of roadside garages and service stations may be used providing their services have not been pre-arranged. Competitors are encouraged to help each other, but only using components carried in a competing car or purchased locally."

The entry fee is steep at around £3000 too (gulp) but that does cover all accomodation, food etc etc as well as the rally itself.

I will be looking at 2011 and ideally a Marathon that goes to the Alps.

A tough event for the navigator tho and the car would need to be very reliable - not forgetting it's a real challenge for the driver too but I was inspired by the original 1988 Classic Marathon. This could be my new aim.

But never forget - I am still not done with the Manx [;)]

I see a lot of legal wriggle room there!

Its very good to see you & the car will still be active.

There's a classic rally on from this coming weekend - Lands End to John O'Groats 'Le Jog'. That one may be worth looking into for next year Martin as it does sound very interesting.

I have never found "Le Jog" particularly hits the right buttons for me.

Entry fee of £2250 over a weekend in December in the UK - hmmm

£3000 for 6 or 7 days in June in France/Austria/Italy - seems more like my type of thing[8D]

I wasn't going to post again on here until March (!) but there's been a development.

I have seen the consultant today and without going into the detail - I won't be able to drive at all until at least November 2010[xx(]

So, the events I have commented on in 2010 won't happen for me (at least driving) and as a result this thread will become very very quiet.

That's a bugger. Can you navigate?

Coincidently, I just found this slide show of you in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Csr8ofi3Npo.

I can navigate on some low level events which are still fun and challenging but I have to think about that for a while.

I would want to do the events in my car and I won't just let anyone drive it - I have put too much of myself into it.

My co-driver Sarah yes but we live 3 hours from each other so it's not that easy to o-ordinate when I can't even drive the car to an event.

Ho-hum we'll see

That's such a shame Raider, very sorry to hear you're still unable to drive.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes.

Having had a couple of days to think about this my obstinate, stubborn streak is coming out[:D]

I am still going to buy the rally computer I want with the Demon Tweeks vouchers I have told everyone I want for Xmas, I am still going to refresh the cylinder head and timing chain etc, I am still going to fit group 4 brakes and I am still going to get my car it's official MSA Historic vehicle papers.

In addition, I am still going to the Manx with the car co-driving as soon as I can (another 5 or 6 years now)but even if I have more problems I am still bloody well going as service crew for my own car if I have to[:0]

Good for you. You sure you wouldn't rather stay at home & put your feet up though. [:D]
