Brisbane Sports Car Show.

Postby Hasbeen » 11 May 2009 01:46

Our Queensland Triumph club run this show, every mothers day, yes
yesterday. I did have a post almost done last week, but a 5 hour
power cut wiped it, & I forgot to do it again.

I was very busy. My youngest, [18 year old] daughter expressed
interest in taking one of the cars. This was the first time she has
shown any interest in the Triumphs, so I had to get in, & clean up
the daily driver 7. She's not allowed to drive a V8 for a couple of
years yet.

It was a perfect day, sunny clear skys, around 77 F & a light
breese, & the park looked nice & green, after some recent rain. The
spectator numbers were good, as I'd got an artical in 2 of the local
papers.

The car numbers were down a little, perhaps as there are now a few
other events on the same day, but we must have had 500 or so.
Triumphs were a bit short too. Only one of the entire Spitfire/GT6
range, & just 4 TR7/8s, & 2 of them were mine. Stags were the best
supplied, with 6s next, but we must have been down by a dozen or
so on last year.

There were more E Types than Triumphs, & Alfa's were plentiful.
Another growing group is the Ford GT40s, one genuine, one of the new
Ford GTs, & about a dozen replicas. These are fully factory built,
400/500BHP twin OH cam things, & pretty good. Clubman types old &
new seem to be multiplying like wire coat hangers in a closed
wardrobe, & US & Oz mussel cars are in large supply.

I was stuffed last night, after helping paint miles of white lines
on the grass, for parking lanes, & setting up all the mark signage
on Saturday, but it was one of those really great days. Pity you
missed it.
