Re: Respray costs

That TR7 shell looks fabulous in stripped out form Beans. The black sills really do make it look so sleak. Could be worth re-thinking the single colour perhaps. A great photo!

Re: Respray costs

Is that ACG17857? If so, you have the check trim, coloured carpets, full width wheel trim model. Black paint is on the rear light cluster panel. Sills have some sort of anti-stone chip matt black protection on them but it doesn't really matter what you use as long as the sills are black (the cars lo...

Re: Can I fit Dolomite wheels on a TR7?

I have spacers on my standard TR7 steel wheels in order to clear the big Capri 2.8i brake callipers. They've been on there for years and work perfectly. The kit came from Robsport International but I'm sure S&S Preparations will be able to supply the same thing.

Re: Fuel Gas Petrol Filler Cap Gaskets (dhc later fhc)

Did you replace the rubber seal that locks the fuel in the tank and stops water running in from the top? The seal is the most important part as I can testify having suffered water getting into the tank in heavy rain.

I'm pretty sure I published them in 'Bullet Reloaded' Owen. Being Polaroid's they're not brilliant quality.

Re: Fluctuating Rev counter

Check your points dwell assuming you are not running off electronic. Once the points have opened up too much the tacho bounces around even if the car may feel like it's running okay (ish).

Re: TR7 Victory 1976 - Thanks for the add

They're all special now FI Spyder. There are so few left despite many being dragged out of scrap yards and long term storage in recent years. Becoming very sought after so look after 'em all.

Re: TR7 DHC development start?

Development started in 1974. The styling design was the Harris Mann original but modified by John Lloyd and Tony Lee whereby they instructed one of their tinsmiths to cut off the roof. After lunch they decided it didn't look too bad and so a prototype coupe that had been finished with was driven dow...

Re: Valve checking adjustment

In case it hasn't been mentioned before - check the buckets are all still straight when you have them out. They can warp in the middle so hold two up to eachother before re-using them. Also, you've got to be certain there isn't a high lift cam in there otherwise the exhaust valve tappet gap needs to...

Re: An odd headlight issue

Spray all the wiring and connectors with WD40 to stop damp getting in and that can stop this sort of issue.

Re: K&N air filters

The best TriumphTune TR7 articles were in 'Sports Car Monthly in August and September 1985. That got me hooked. I seriously doubt the 140+BHP figures all these writers estimated though. Years ago I saw 121BHP on the rolling road dyno for my own car (may have been 118BHP but I can't remember for sure...

Re: K&N air filters

Removing that whole fan housing assembly was one of the first things I did to my TR7 and there was an immediate, noticeable improvement. All of a sudden the engine wanted to rev and performance was more brisk. Power surely couldn't have increased so it can only have been due to the removal of that r...

Re: K&N air filters

Short of changing the camshaft to a higher lift item I think the best thing you can do to a TR7 is to remove the original fan and the whole pulley assembly and stick an electric on. K&N air filters might not do a darned thing other than affect cold running... badly.

Re: steering wheel shaking/wheel wobble

FI Spyder, I've had lots of different causes for the TR7 steering wheel wobble over the years but the most recent one caused by the rear axle was different and it sounds like the same symptoms you're currently having. The shaking didn't occur all the time and sometimes I'd think it was gone but then...

Re: steering wheel shaking/wheel wobble

It was the rear axle causing the steering wheel wobble in my car. I think this rather illustrates just how sensitive these cars are to this phenomena and how critical the whole setup is. Multiple causes for the same effect mean it's very difficult to pin down the cause.
