Today at Duxford airfield

First proper showing of the recommissioned monster I went along to the TSSC show at Duxford in Cambridgeshire. We were blessed with the nicest people and cars AND super weather to boot! There were many Spitfires - Cars and planes ! Loads of GT6's, Dollies, Stags, TR4/5/6's and three Sevens ! Several...

Refreshing the Mohair hood on my V8

Having neglected my v8 for a decade has taken a toll on the mohair top. I shoulda' covered it, but you know ? So it was looking very dusty and discoloured. I carefully hoovered the dust and lint etc. off with a car vacuum. Then i washed it lightly and left it to dry. It looked better, but a bit dry ...

Gaydon or bust ! Part 2

So, Sunday morning, carbs cleaned and adjusted, I set off early to ensure I get a good spot at the show. Things are going along nicely and I am enjoying the drive on A & B roads, avoiding the Motorways completely. The new wheels and tyres are a revelation as I check out the handling through roun...

Steph of ' idriveaclassic ' has some interesting video's of the less glamorous end of the classic world - the cars that really need some attention.

Re: Gaydon or bust ! Part 1

Wow ! Were the skid marks more impressive on the M40 or in your pants? ! Wish my travails were as exciting.
I take it you and the drivers around you came out otherwise unscathed ?

Gaydon or bust ! Part 1

Early Saturday morning I set off for the National at the British motor museum with excitement. It has been over a decade since I last went to the National which was then at Billing. I get 10 miles down the road and the car stalls - I coast into a driveway, scratching my head looking under the bonnet...

Re: car starts to stutter

Hey Steve, another possibilty is worn jets/needles, so that at certain revs, too much air/too little fuel is mixing through the venturi. Check the jets to see if the opening has become oval and the needles for wear. Also worth checking the carb mounts for leaks - smear some grease/oil on them and loo...

Re: Gaydon 2019

Hey Stevie, hope to be there for at least one of the days, most likely on Sat. in the auto. If the V8 is ready - mot and full service etc. I will try to make Sunday too. Who else is going ? This forum seems quieter than it used to be - guess they are all on Facebook these days - what a shame ! Monst...

Re: Wheel Stud splines

Hey Moe, Sorry to hear you are under the weather, thanks for the offer of the spacers, but I think the afore mentioned adaptors will be the way to go. Hope to make Gaydon for at least Saturday in the auto and possibly Sunday in the Monster ( fingers crossed ), would love to see you there if you are ...

Re: Wheel Stud splines

What wheels you using, Moe ? My callipers are set off center by a small fraction which works with the Minilite 15" rims, but not with the 15" Wolfies - go figure ? 20 " spacers will fix the clearance, but I dont like the idea of the stress on the extra long studs required. Might have ...

Re: 10 years older, not much wiser !

G'Day Cobber, birminghamtr7, IanFtr8. Hope you are all doing good. Ian, I am hoping to go up on the Saturday in the auto for the day and possibly on the Sunday in the V8 if I get it running/mot'd/serviced/cleaned and happy that its ready for its first long run in a decade. Have to let you know if th...

Re: Wheel Stud splines

Hey, Moe, Beans. Just got studs from Demon Tweeks, looks like i might have to remove the hubs/half shafts to get enough space to put them in place. Might be a job for the winter ! I got some 15" Wolfies with that MG offset ( i think ) at 35mm. TR7 is 25mm, so Got 10mm spacers like yours, Moe. I...

Re: 10 years older, not much wiser !

Hi there, 'Bushey',
Think I remember you, Adam ? Dark blue TR7 V8 ?
The monster is an RPI built 4.6 and I recall it got called 'ASBO' by the register because I ruined their front row of old bangers !
Glad to see your still around mate.
